Blind Guardian - Battalions Of Fear
"Majesty" it starts with a kind of funny keyboard intro and then comes the power metal shock of 1987. Full power ahead no stopping for anyone. Fast guitars and fast drums, fast bass and fast vocals. The vocals of lead singer Hansi are great on this album. I have always loved this vocal sound. The music sounds very inspired by Helloween and Metallica yet with a touch of magic that makes this band stand out. "Guardian Of The Blind" fast from the start, and not likely to stop the speed of this track. Great song and great lyrics and the powerful metal of this track kicks ass. I like this speed metal with the power metal drums and with the great vocals of Hansi. The chorus of this song kicks ass, then there is the solo, wow, power/speed metal all the way. "Trial By The Archon" a great start for this instrumental track and the powerful march drums kicks ass. „Wizard´s Crown" sounds like a storm of metal right from the start of this track. „Halloween“ track that kicks ass, fast and furious the chorus is great and easy to remember. So the sing along factor is great in this song. The guitar solos are played faster and harder, it sounds great. "Run For The Night" fast from the start this track kicks ass. A very fast and furious track, with fast lyrics. It is hard to hear what he sings, but it is about Lord Of The Rings. It is about the hill in the dark and the dark lord. The Metal factor on this track says power/speed metal with an extra turbo guitar. "The Martyr" great track that has a lot of energy to kick ass. A real power metal track, with the powerful drums that is the trademark of power metal. The solos are great too. They have a lot of power in them. And then the vocals by Hansi are once again something extra ordinary. "Battalions Of Fear" great power on this track. I can´t explain why, but I am totally crazy about these old Blind Guardian albums. I think it may be the power of the tracks that make me feel this way. The riff is very simple but great; the drums in the middle part are cool. The chorus is great and easy to remember and easy to sing along to. "By The Gates Of Moria" instrumental track filled with power and great metal. "Gandalf´s Rebirth" bonus track, instrumental track filled with power and great metal. This album is powerful, songs kick ass and that is why this album is on the high level. The only reason it is not sky high this rating is the fact that the production could need some work, but on the other hand this album is from 1987 that is kind of a long time ago.
